a tradition. good luck everyone!

T'was the night before finals,
And all through the college,
The students were praying
For last minute knowledge.

Most were quite sleepy,
But none touched their beds,
While visions of essays
Danced in their heads.

Out in the taverns,
A few were still drinking,
And hoping that liquor
Would get their brains thinking.

In my own apartment,
I had been pacing,
Dreading all those exams
I soon would be facing.

My roommate was speechless,
His nose in his books,
And my comments to him
Drew unfriendly looks.

I drained all the coffee,
And brewed a new pot,
No longer caring
That my nerves were shot.

I stared at my notes,
But my thoughts were all muddy,
My eyes went a'blur,
I just couldn't study.

"Some pizza might help,"
I said with a shiver,
But each place I called
Refused to deliver.

I'd pretty much concluded
Life is unfair and cruel,
Since our futures all depend
On grades made in school.

When all of a sudden,
Our door opened wide,
And Patron Saint Put-It-Off
Ambled inside.

Her spirit was careless,
Her manner was mellow,
She looked at the mess
And started to bellow:

"Why should us students
Make such a fuss,
About what those teachers
Toss out to us?"

"On Cliff Notes!
tomorrow at this time i'll be making my final final final preparations to leave my dad's house to go to the airport to go to CHINA!!!!!!!!! ON MY BIRTHDAY!!!!!!!!!! i just found out that my flight was changed from connecting in chicago to connecting in san fran, which means our flight leaves 40 minutes earlier than originally planned. but it's ok, because WE'RE GOING TO CHINA!!!!!!!!! ON MY BIRTHDAY!!!!!!!!

all my grades are in, and it's been a rough semester:

Geography: b
Piano: a
Lessons: b (wtf)
Trombone Choir: a
Glee Club: a
Wind Syphilis: a
Ear Training: b
Theory: a (I GOT A 100 ON MY PAPER, BOOYAH!!!)
Conducting: b (another wtf)
Sociology: a

4 b's and 6 a's. new overall gpa: 3.74.

i'm going to talk to keck about my conducting grade, because that grade was about 85% subjective, and i totally don't think i deserved a b. hopefully he'll hear what i have to say. lessons...i don't even know what is wrong with that man. oh well. my recital was not stellar, and i know that. i was really upset about it at first, but i've calmed down a bit. i'm so glad about my b in geography, especially since i was considering dropping it before the midterm. and my b in ear training was solidly deserved since ear training 4 SUCKS BUTT. but it's over and i never have to do it ever again. woohoo!! after i take 6 hours this summer i'll officially be a senior w/ 92 hours...too bad i won't be graduating until right on time. i'm officially a sociology minor!!! i'm so excited. i'm taking medical sociology this summer and sociology of gender in the fall. heck yes. i'm really just trying to waste time at this point because it's almost 4am and i have to acclimate myself to china time. hayley and erin are spending the night with me at my dad's house saturday night (tonight/tomorrow night depending on how you look at it) and we're totally staying up all night and stuff...hooray! i have yet to begin packing, and my dad gets here at 2pm...i guess i should get on that. NO SLEEP TILL CHINA!!!

spring break '06 was pretty boring. we were going to go to cape cod and have an awesome time, but certain unfortunate events occurred right before the break that caused us to cancel the trip. it's ok though, i got to go home, which i hadn't done since the first weekend back from winter break. but then i got bored with that and came back to atown on thursday, when i went out to dinner with the basketball band/hilton head crew and got to hear fun stories from their trip. too bad those losers got a 2 week break...i hate you guys!! jk. friday i went with kat and katie to the mall to kill some time, then we got some green dt stuff and went downtown for st. pattys! much fun. saturday and sunday i spent thinking, "man, i should really practice" but not actually doing anything at all. big mistake! my recital is in less than a week and i'm freaking out! i've been practicing so much lately, i think my lips are going to fall off. it's all good though. i think it will be ok...at least i hope so! the theory paper is due this friday, and i haven't really started that yet. awesome. piano midterm tomorrow. i hate school. other than that though, life is good. i totally rocked it out in theory today, i mean i was a freaking genius. well not really but it was at least the first day that i didn't feel like a complete idiot in that class. anyway, i should probably go practice piano or figure out what i'm writing my paper on....awesome. lata!

p.s. monday, 3/27 5pm edge hall: be there! rachel, ashley and i are going to rock the house. yay trombone girls!

hok so should i drop geography, risking graduating a semester later than i want to, or should i just try really hard in the class and try to pull off a c or higher? there are 5 tests, he lets us drop one, so far we've had 2 and i've failed both of them because i didn't study at all. withdrawal is tomorrow and our 3rd test is wednesday. i'm going to actually study for this one, but i think a lot of the questions come from lecture, which i either don't go to or fall asleep in it when i do go. what should i do??? i really don't want to drop it, but i also don't want to fail...

somewhere along the line i lost my mind and now i can't find it. last night i showed up to exec at 7. i could have sworn it was at 7. it's been at 7:30 all year...yeah. today was just horrible. i found out how important a brain is for functioning (you can't miss something till it's gone right?) i hadn't been to any of my t/r classes in a week because of gmea (which was super btw) and i just completely forgot to do all my homework/practicing, so every class sucked. forgot about the piano assignments and didn't practice the right things. basically forgot how to play trombone in conducting, and then when i conducted it was horrible...absolutely awful. i just couldn't get my arms to do what they needed to. i looked a foo. forgot to do ear training and when we were doing melodic dictation...well there was a descending 2nd and i wrote an ascending 4th. i don't even know how. i just wasn't paying attention and i looked at it and i was like...that's not right. it's just been bad. i really need to take a nap, but i've got stuff to do for tomorrow, like study for my sociology test. that's actually VERY important because i probably failed the geog test yesterday because i bought the lab manual instead of the text book. what is WRONG with me?!?! my mind is gone!!!!!!!!! AAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!

it's nap time.

HOORAY!!!!! tonight was pinning, which is the beginning of the pledge period for the new mit's, and holy cow i'm so freaking excited! watching the process from the other side was so cool...very surreal. I HAVE THE BEST LITTLE SISTER EVER!!!! YAY EMILY!!! that's what you get for stalking someone for a year. plus getting paid to hang out with her is a good deal. the pledge class rocks so hard, and even though they have to do a lot, i'm almost jealous of them...ahhh good times. YAY!!!!!!

anyway, i swear i'm not anti-lj, i'm just really lazy. this semester is pretty cool, i like all my classes, except for the fact that on MWF they're all back to back and i'm late to almost every one of them, esp. wednesday with my 8am lesson tagged onto it all. but it's all good. i'm really excited about starting my sociology minor, i already love it and i've only been to like 5 classes. geography is the other core i'm taking this semester. my mom majored in it at CU, so i thought it would be pretty cool...it's definitely pretty boring. although after reading ratemyprofessors, i thought it was going to be AWFUL but it's really not all that bad. the other new class i'm taking this semester is conducting, which i absolutely suck at, but absolutely love. tuesday/thursdays are AMAZING this semester, esp. because i get to go to ramsey with katie after glee club!!! hooray!!! and because i have the coolest ear training section ever. it's just going to be an overall great semester! i found out today that i don't have a position at hodgson to work at, so i'm going to try to find another on-campus job instead. it's all good. ok, well i will update more often, i promise!!

time for homework...

the random trip to the mountains was fun. katie mac and i left mayretta around 2 or 3 on sunday, and it took us a long and boring 2 1/2 hours to get up to apple mountain resort near clarkesville. it ended up just being dan, katie mac, and me. but it was cool. we went grocery shopping and got stuff for a few meals, and i swear i haven't eaten that badly in a long time. don't get me wrong everything tasted good, but i don't think we had a single "healthy" meal the entire time. it was fun. we watched some movies sunday night, and on monday we drove over to tallulah falls/gorge and went hiking around there. it was actually less hiking and more walking down (and then back up) 450 steps. holy crap we were winded by the end. but it was really cool. we "hiked" all the way down to the bottom and then jumped this gate that technically (legally) we probably shouldn't have crossed, but it's all good. we climbed on the rocks a little until dan fell in the river and got his entire leg soaked...it was hilarious. after that we climbed the bajillion steps and drove for a while to the dillard house for lunch, which i had never heard of but dan and katie mac had, and it was pretty much amazing. after lunch we came back to the cabin-thing and played risk. good times. then some dinner and more movies. we checked out and left early the next morning for helen, which was pretty random - an entire town that looked like bavaria, but all the shops had the same touristy stuff in them. we split a funnel cake for breakfast lol and then started our journey home...with a stop at the north georgia outlet mall. dan took forever in every store, so i'm pretty much never shopping with him again. and i was really sick and just wanted to go home...got home, took a nap, and then my mom took me to get a new phone! the service at the store was awful. we were there for an hour and a half and it didn't really seem like anyone there knew what they were doing, plus this one lady was kinda rude to me when i was picking out phones, but it's all good. i got my phone and i'm happy. yesterday i did some laundry and then a lot of nothing. and now i'm at my dad's. i just made an appointment to get ma hurr did tomorrow! so excited!! looks like we're not going to charleston, very sad. but i am going back to athens before the bowl trip, probably on the 30th, hooray! ok, time to go...do something else :)

i'm so bored already! i think though that once i get my license back (again) next week i'll be a lot less bored. but for now boredom rules. it's a good thing i'm not the only one who feels this way. dan's been home since tuesday and is bored out of his mind, so his parents rented him a cabin in the mountains and a few of us are gonna go up there tomorrow and chill until tuesday. that should be exciting. and when i get back i'm planning on moving into my dad's for the rest of break, because my mom and step dad's work schedules are really weird, so they're never home, and hanging out with josh on the rare occasion that he is home is not exactly the most fun ever. so yeah. oh, i finally saw sense and sensibility, and i must say that jane austen is the best author ever, even though i'm sure these movies do her books less justice than they deserve. holy poo. i'm planning on seeing pride and prejudice a THIRD time with my mom, because we decided we should see it together before it even came out. well, that's all that's really going on...a whole bunch of nothing. three days ago i would have begged to be able to do nothing. but its charm has passed. *sigh* i wish i hadn't come home from athens so early!!! BOO!!!
